Where the production habits come from.

Four years inside a Fortune-100 engineering org, then every day since inside businesses that run on my own code.

Starbucks — Application Developer I → II

Jun 2021 — Oct 2025 · promoted to II, Dec 2022

Full-stack application development and Azure infrastructure for mission-critical ERP and store-development applications serving multi-user enterprise teams.

Full-stack application work

  • Built and maintained React frontends with Node.js/Express backends and MongoDB, in an Agile/Scrum SDLC with code review, source control, and automated build/test standards.
  • Administered and optimized SQL Server databases — schema design, indexing, stored procedures, and query tuning — supporting application and reporting needs.
  • Migrated a production backend off Cosmos DB and a Redis cache onto MongoDB — simplified the stack and produced real cost savings, a tradeoff I can defend line by line.
  • Implemented an Express Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) pattern to keep SSO tokens off the client, and led a React Router v5 → v6 upgrade.
  • Integrated enterprise SSO: Passport.js + SAML federated against Starbucks' Microsoft identity provider — SAML request handling, relay state, home realm discovery. The fiddly parts.
  • Built integrations against the Box API (Electronic Lease Library, Store Image Gallery), plus Twilio and Mailgun.
  • Developed custom Apache NiFi processors for data ingestion and transformation supporting ERP integrations — approved by the enterprise architecture team for production deployment, a high bar internally.

Cloud & infrastructure (Azure)

  • Ran the app across Azure App Service and a fleet of Linux VMs, configured alongside the cloud and firewall teams; React frontend on two VMs behind a load balancer, Node processes managed with PM2.
  • Designed the network so the backend API was never publicly exposed: frontend/backend VM segmentation with private NSG rules, backend reachable only from the frontend subnet via private IP inside the VNET.
  • Azure Front Door and CDN at the edge — routing, caching, SSL termination, WAF.
  • CI/CD through Azure DevOps and GitHub; monitoring and telemetry dashboards in Datadog and Splunk.

Security

  • Produced cloud-security review artifacts: architecture diagrams covering components, data flows, open ports, and security configuration.
  • Performed SQL-injection hardening across frontend and backend as part of enterprise security review.

Leadership & recognition

  • Tier-3 escalated production support for SSO, integration, and infrastructure issues spanning multiple teams.
  • Mentored junior developers, coordinated offshore collaboration, and built reusable backend modules and architectural patterns other teams adopted.

Bravo Award (2024) — built a Next.js + MongoDB application adopted company-wide to host the annual Hackweek event.

AFO Tech (All For One) — Founder & Software Developer

Phoenix / Cave Creek, AZ · Oct 2025 — present

Web design and marketing-automation agency, run as a one-person delivery team across concurrent client projects — scoping, architecture, build, deployment, and production support. A fleet of production client sites on a custom Eleventy/CodeStitch stack, chosen deliberately for speed, security, and SEO over heavy CMS platforms. Productized GoHighLevel services: CRM pipelines, review funnels, missed-call text-back, AI lead intake. Modern AI-assisted development workflow throughout (Claude Code, MCP, agent orchestration).
